August 1–5, 2015. We held the two-person exhibition "Prayer for Water," with Goh Shigetomi and Yu Nozaki, at Kyoto's Kiyomizu-dera.
The exhibition was held in the Sutra Hall, a National Important Cultural Property. This year marked the 100th anniversary — and 100th session — of Japan's first dawn lecture series, the "Urabon Dharma Talk," which has continued at Kiyomizu-dera for a century, and the exhibition was timed to coincide with it. Alongside the "Water Deity" figure enshrined at Kiyomizu-dera and previously unseen works, the exhibition brought together Ryusuimon with Yu Nozaki's photography, treating water and light as life itself — the beauty held within things unseen, shown through both flowing patterns and photographs. More than 300 people came each day, over 60% of them from overseas, and as always for "Prayer for Water," visitors wrote in a notebook what voice they felt they heard from the Water Deity — this time, in a great many different languages.

We held the first "Gratitude for the Water of Life — Prayer for Water" exhibition.
July 2–6, 2012, Tokyo.
The first "Gratitude for the Water of Life — Prayer for Water" exhibition was held at Happo-en in Shirokanedai, Tokyo. Though open only on weekdays, many people came. On three walls of the venue we displayed the "Water Deity" figure enshrined at Kyoto's Kiyomizu-dera, along with works that had also been shown at the exhibition in Paris, at the Carrousel du Louvre, at the end of the previous year.

From the blog, July 10 — The exhibition ran from July 2 to 6. Each day, the water flowed pleasantly. Every morning when I arrived at the venue, I would face each piece of flowing water in turn and say, "Flow smoothly and pleasantly today too, as always." Then it would slowly begin to make a sound. Here and there I would hear it — korokoro, suisui, horohoro, shuushuu, konkon.

From the blog, July 14 — At the exhibition, visitors wrote down what message they felt they heard from the Water Deity. I am grateful and glad that so many people left such truthful words. Here are a few of them:
— People, too, should learn from nature and water.
— Wake up and notice, already!
— Let's live together!
— This planet is itself a work of ART. And each of our own LIVES keeps creating the "now."
— Take care of nature, water, and the earth . . .

May 2012. IWCJ Little Ambassadors, Zambia — I gave a talk about water for children at the residence of the First Secretary of the Zambian Embassy.
The Little Ambassador Program is run by the general incorporated foundation International Women's Club Japan. In it, children become "Little Ambassadors," taking part in activities in a multilingual setting at various embassies. I took part as a guest at a recent Little Ambassadors session held at the residence of the First Secretary of the Zambian Embassy, giving a talk so that many children could hear about, and feel, the wonder of water. Zambia, like Japan, is a country rich in water. It is home to Victoria Falls, one of the world's three great waterfalls, and holds some 60% of the water resources of southern Africa.

2009 — Published "Water Is an Intelligent Life Form" (Fuunsha).
After 38 years of making Ryusuimon, I had come to be certain that water has a will of its own, and a book was published whose contents seemed to bear this out: "Water Is an Intelligent Life Form" (Fuunsha). Its three authors are Goh Shigetomi, Seihan Mori (Chief Priest of Kiyomizu-dera), and Izumi Masukawa (Doctor of Engineering).

Water Is an Intelligent Life Form
2006

The Appearance of the Water Deity
The water at a river's source is innocent and cheerful, flowing along as if chattering endlessly. I have captured that flowing form in ink on washi paper, tracing the many expressions of water for 25 years. In the spring of Heisei 17 (2005), a miracle occurred within the river. A miracle is a phenomenon already latent within nature, made manifest by the necessity of that particular time and place. What should we, as humankind, feel and how should we respond to this magnificent figure that rose up out of the water, to that voice crying out so loudly? Am I the only one who cannot help but feel awe, sensing that it was drawn by some great will?
